6 Foods Every Indian Gave Up for a Diet (and Regretted Immediately)
- by admin
Happy International No Diet Day! What? Does a day like this even exist? Well, apparently, it does! This is life’s funny way to show us that things aren’t always tough and serious. We can enjoy life in the little things, and everything works out.
We have diet days, health days, and whatnot! We are not saying those are bad or anything; rather, they are essential. But we all need playful days, and the ‘International No Diet Day’ is surely going to be at the top of that list for us.
Today, we’re throwing caution (and calories) to the wind and embracing the joy of guilt-free indulgence. Come on, we all deserve it, out of the blue! In a world obsessed with perfection (and we have no problem with that), it’s somehow refreshing to dedicate a day to self-love, self-acceptance, and seriously delicious food.
The best part is that it is happening in the middle of the week! It makes things even more fun.
No Diet Day isn’t just about pizza parties and cake binges (although, let’s be real, those are pretty great). It’s about breaking free from the cycle of restriction and guilt that often accompanies food, even on a weekday. It’s about embracing our curves, our quirks, and our love for all things edible. By no means are we encouraging cheating on your diet days, but for one day, to pay tribute to this epic day, we must join hands.
So, go ahead and grab that extra slice (or three), savour the flavours, and celebrate the beauty of imperfection. Because on this No Diet Day, we’re not just celebrating food – we’re celebrating life’s sweet treats without apology. Let’s raise a fork (and a glass) to body positivity, mental wellness, and happiness.
Also, coming to the blog post, here are some foods that every Indian gave up on their diet and just could not keep up with. This is what we were talking about. We tend to get hard on ourselves, and the entire concept of diet dies down.
This International No Diet Day, you need to slow down and make mindful choices to continue being in the game for a long time.
Let’s check out what those foods are!
- Kadak Chai
Starting with the ‘blood to the veins’ needs of every Indian. Kadak masaledaar chai with malai and sugar is something most Indians crave. They can’t begin their day without this. But, malai, milk, and sugar are something people decide to cut down on during their diet. But, the truth is that this is the toughest decision they make, that too super early in their diet journey.
Strong, rich, and utterly addictive, this everlasting brew is more than just a morning pick-me-up. Our dieting friends tend to switch to green tea or black coffee, only to find themselves missing the warmth that Kadak chai gives. The regret is real when they realise they’ve traded their daily dose of happiness for a marginal calorie cut.
It’s not just the kadak chai that you are missing, but the first loving hug of the day! It’s time to rethink the diet plan and bring back the chai, because a good cuppa is worth a few extra calories. Don’t be so hard on yourself, just get a little smart, will you?
- Chatakedaar Golgappe
Let’s get real! Golgappe is unhealthy as it is fried, has enough potatoes, but also, it is one of the best street foods to ever exist in the world. Nothing compares to the taste and the feeling that this snack gives. But, obviously, when we decide to go on a diet, we tend to leave junk behind, and this becomes an obvious damage.
However, golgappes are not like any other heavy junk food that you only eat when you are hungry or when you are extremely craving. It is one of the junk food items that Indians tend to eat just out of the box, randomly, as we spot a gogappe wala.
Leaving this for diet is very difficult and makes our lives really tough. Do we really deserve to live like this? Well, if it is so important, we can still have one or two for the taste, if not more!
- Dum Biryani
Dum Biryani (veg or non-veg) is not a food but an emotion. And you can live without a certain food item, but not without an emotion, for sure! That would make you inhuman. If we had to be a little poetic, we would say that ‘Dum biryani, the majestic king of Indian cuisine, is a flavour sensation that many dieters reluctantly bid farewell to.’
God wanted you to be healthy, but inconsiderate towards yourself. So, if not often, you can still include this in your cheat days. Make room for them for one day in a week (if you are a real lover) and once a month (if you just like it enough).
Ask yourself this question – Is it really worth giving up the joy of savouring a perfectly cooked plate of dum biryani? Let’s be real, some flavours are worth fighting for. Work out a lot, so that even a plate of biryani doesn’t make a difference in your body.
- Vada Pav
Talking about snacks and irresistible junk food, vada pav definitely comes on the list. It is one of those food items that, as Indians, we do not have a problem eating, and we do not even have a count on it while doing so. Not that it’s light, but it’s not super heavy and extremely delicious. Vada Pav that are sold on the streets, in the cafes, or made at home are all amazing.
It goes as an obvious decision that while on a diet, we cut down on these food items. They are high in calories for lots of reasons, and it is a good decision to cut them out of your life as you are making healthy choices. But, the problem is not it leaving our lives, the problem is the flashbacks that it gives.
Every time you cross a cart that sells vada pav, your heart sinks a little. You want to eat it, but you can’t because you have made a commitment. You think about the good times you had with vada pav. Ohh, instant regret that follows after this!
- Daily Paranthas
Indians and parathas go hand in hand. You cannot make us work out and be healthy so hard that we ditch our parathas. But if you tend to work out, stay healthy, and decide to lead a healthy lifestyle, ditching the parathas becomes inevitable. You can’t be eating parathas daily and leading a healthy lifestyle. That multiverse does not exist!
But, as an Indian, it is impossible not to have parathas for more than 3 – 5 business days. We have so many paratha varieties, and ditching them all at once is next to impossible. For some days, you are simply out of mind that if not parathas, what are you going to eat next! You are blank for some days about your food choices.
Instant regret is inevitable, but we have a hack for you. Make one day in the week for parathas, but cut down on ghee, butter, and oil. This way, your cravings will be satisfied, you will still be healthy, and your temptations to eat it often will also decrease because now you are habituated to eating the healthy parathas, which are not that good (let’s be real, now)!
- Epic Butter Chicken
Our hearts sank a little thinking about it! Oh, the sacrifices we have to make in love, even if it is self-love! The things we have to do in love are insane, and this is a sheer proof of that. But the worst part is that we love butter chicken and also ourselves (and that hot body). So, saying NO to one is quite tough.
Think about this situation, ‘you go to the mall, you pass a nice restro and it gives off an aroma of garlic naan and butter chicken, you are tempted to eat it, but then you suddenly remember that you can’t because you decided to be good to yourself’. How is that life looking at you?
It’s tough, we know! Instant regrets are there, and it’s tough to keep up with this!
Conclusion
This was the Indian diet disaster zone! It’s time to bid adieu to these fad-free foods and welcome back the real MVPS: butter chicken, crispy samosas, and creamy biryani. But, only for a day to cherish it all. After all, life’s too short (and delicious) to stick to kale and quinoa (but, please keep sticking to those, just cheat on them for a while).
So, go ahead and give your taste buds (and your diet) a break. Let’s make a pact to love our food, love our curves, and love life – no regrets, no guilt trips! Bring back the flavour, bring back the fun – it’s time to indulge in India’s culinary delights once again! And, make sure to enjoy this day thoroughly.
